High temperatures in summer cause us to take in more of liquid food to the detriment of solids. Natural drinks with fruit and water and a high amount of vitamins are recommended.
Let us begin by a classic: the lemonade. The typical American recipe includes a syrup made from natural ingredients. So, for a jug will need 400 ml of water, 200 grams of sugar, lime and lemon rind to develop such syrup for which we will use 225 ml and 5 large lemons, 2 green limes, 600 ml of cold water, 20 ice cubes for the lemonade itself. The next step is to put the water and sugar in a saucepan with a lime and lemon rind and wait for it to boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. After about ten minutes over low heat, we get a light syrup, which virtually won’t thicken. Let the syrup cool and store it. Cut lemons and limes in half and from each, we take a very fine slice that will be added to the jar to decorate. Squeeze the juice from the citrus and pur it over water and sugar syrup, filling the jar with a little cold water and stirring slightly. Add the ice and put the jar to the refrigerator for five minutes for it to be cool before serving.
Another popular drink during the summer is the horchata. It is simple in preparation and you will need the following ingredients: 250 gr. of tiger nuts, 1 liter of water, the rind of a lemon, a tablespoon of cinnamon, sugar to taste. You have to wash the tiger nuts well and let them soak in water for 12 hours. Once this is done, we drain them and put them in the blender with the lemon peel, cinnamon, and water. Grind all together and put it through a sieve, extracting the drink that is horchata. Then put it in the refrigerator until consumption.
And let’s not forget the lemon tea, although there are many options of ready-made ones, it is better to opt for a homemade one. For a jug, you need: two tablespoons of green tea leaves, a liter of water and three slices of lemon. Heat a liter of water to about 90 degrees, add the tea and let it rest for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how intense you want it, then add the lemon slices and let it cool to taste.
